A TRIBUTE TO A FUTURE JAPAN, INFINITY AND CYBERPUNK

JAPAN IN THE INFINITY UNIVERSE

Looked down upon and shunned by the rest of the Yu Jing state empire, the citizens of Japan in the 22nd century have neither wealth nor prospects. It's no surprise that they would eventually rise up and declare their independence, nor is it surprising that this independence would come at the cost of many lives and the destruction of many of their cities and colonies. This table offers a view of Japan's Himeji city before the uprising.

The Art of the Slum

One of the big challenges of finishing this table was the insane amount of graffiti and other artistic details I needed to add to make the environment feel 'lived in'. I designed a series of posters, some completely original or tweaked versions of other artists' awesome sci-fi art, and placed them in every possible space to give the feel of an unruly neighborhood where people no longer care about how things look. I also designed a few graffiti 'tags' to give the feel of a few warring gangs, vying for every space of wall and realestate.

EXPERIMENTAL TECHNOLOGY

I was determined to include some video elements to the table but scaling most video gear down to a reasonable size proved challenging.

Eventually, I settled on ripping apart old smartphones and using the guts as a base. This allowed me to forgo having cables and just use the batteries from the phones themselves which provide enough power to keep videos playing for a few hours before being charged. Then i just had to create a housing and edit some video down to be used on the screens.

City of Lights

From excessive neon lighting to non-stop video advertising, no cyberpunk city would be complete without a constant assault on the senses. Obviously, this is hard to achieve in the 28mm scale of the Infinity universe but I set myself the task of adding as much lighting as possible without adding intrusive cables or diminishing the play experience.

FINISHED?

Creating this board was a blast and I could go on and on adding details and buildings but (as my other galleries show) I have many more tables in the works for the world of Infinity and my local gaming community.

You can look at all the pics of the completed table below.
